The horror of the hot-pants-suppression -indoctrination lingers all the way to Bangalore from Bangkok. Yet, in India I meet empowered, creative and women driven by vision. There is not a pair of hot-pants in sight, but plenty of confident women striding down the dusty streets,in flouncy pants and long kurtas, all loose clothing to cope with the surrounding heat, calm with agile minds and ready to push ideas.NO NEED TO PLEASEIt is said that no one returns to the same place as the same person. This time, in Bangkok as I return, I will scrutinize the predatory potato-head men with MY ARTIST- gaze.

Hotpants and the role of Culture

Plenty of legs around but no theatre. Plenty of sharp heels but no sharp thoughts for free in public libraries.

When a society only offers shopping malls for public interaction, there is no counterweight to consumerism. Women self- medicate through frippery, men drink and go to coyote bars ( - not even any hotpants in sight , just ladies knickers wriggling on long legs on stage) . Culture ie, the arts is a way for society to study and critique itself through the dialogues and metaphors theatre, literature and radical images provoke. Culture- needs to wear the hotpants of the world.
